The scene: Fifth Third Bank honored eight local leaders representing a variety of backgrounds at the annual Community Leaders Awards Breakfast May 1 at the Chicago Cultural Center (78 E. Washington).

The invite list: Tracy Baim, publisher and co-founder of LGBTQ publication Windy City Times; Liam Krehbiel, founder and CEO of nonprofit A Better Chicago; Chrishon Lampley, Love Cork Screw Wines founder; Sherren Leigh, founder and publisher of Today’s Chicago Woman; Allen Lynch, Vietnam War veteran and founder of the Allen J. Lynch, Medal of Honor, Veterans Foundation; Antonio Ortiz, Cristo Rey Jesuit High School president; Dr. Cheryl Whitaker, chairman and CEO at NextLevelHealth; and Bernarda Wong, founder and president of the Chinese American Service League, received awards.

The bottom line: Each recipient brought home $5,300 to give back and help individuals and organizations in their communities. “This year’s community leaders inspire us with their selfless dedication to making Chicago a better, more caring, more equitable place for everyone,” said Fifth Third Bank Chicago CEO and president Robert A. Sullivan.
