Just like many things in life, entrepreneurship is a learning process. And while I look back with gratitude at how much I’ve learned and how far I’ve come, the only thing I can say with certainty about this journey is that it is driven by uncertainty.

Join me as I share the challenges I face as a wine entrepreneur and the pursuit of stability in an ever-changing industry in hopes that other people on this journey with me can relate, learn from my experiences, and if nothing else, recognize that they are not alone in these challenges.

Pulled In Different Directions

When you see a small business in a grocery store, doing partnerships and being represented in numerous locations, it’s natural to assume that business is better than ever.

However, the reality is far more complex. Juggling these accomplishments with the next thing I should be doing often leaves me feeling pulled in different directions, yet it never seems to be enough.

I’m sure many small business owners can relate to questioning if what we’re doing is ever enough to reach the ever-present goal of stability. The problem is, “enough” means something different for everybody. I find that the best answer is to let the uncertainty continue to drive me forward, embracing each moment and opportunity as they come.

One Moment Can Change Everything

Recently, I received some great news, which should have been a cause for celebration. But along with the good news came a harsh blow.

Things don’t always go as planned. One moment can change everything, and it’s just as important to enjoy the highs as it is to dust yourself off and bounce back from the lows.

The constant fear of having my wine kicked off store shelves, or a new wine brand swooping in weighs heavily on my mind. I’m confident in my product, but that doesn’t change the real fear that is one setback or missed opportunity drastically altering the trajectory of Love Cork Screw.

The Emotional Rollercoaster

Now, don’t get me wrong – I genuinely enjoy the thrill of the ups and downs that come with entrepreneurship. But I would be lying if I said that the path forward isn’t scary at times.

After the dust settles, reflecting on those experiences can bring both hope and anxiety, but that just tells me that I have more to do. The sweet spot between hope and uncertainty is where new opportunities lie to elevate my business to new heights.

The Power of Your Mindset

As I write this blog post at 7:36 PM on a Monday night, I’m aware that my current state of mind may be transformed by tomorrow at 9 AM. That’s not only a natural part of being an entrepreneur, but a natural part of being human.

Your mindset is a business tool you get for free. I’m in the process of learning to use it to my advantage. In times that the anxiety takes over, I remember that success requires perseverance and resilience and that starts with my mind.

Part of the beauty of this business lies in its unpredictability. And the difference between unpredictability bringing excitement for the opportunities that lie ahead and creating a pit of persistent anxiety in your stomach is your mindset.

Embracing the Journey

I firmly believe that 2023 will be a remarkable year for Love Cork Screw. I will continue to seize every opportunity to expand the reach of our wines and ensure they grace as many glasses as possible.

Thank you for joining me on this rollercoaster ride through the challenges and triumphs of running a small business. My vision and passion for Love Cork Screw overshadows the anxiety that accompanies entrepreneurship, and if you take anything from this piece, I hope it is to embrace the journey, harness the power of each moment and use the uncertainty to your advantage.

With Love,
Chrishon
